Australia-China economic trade, investment expo opens in Melbourne

The Australia-China Economic Trade and Investment Expo (ACETIE) 2025 opened in Melbourne on Thursday, with a focus on new-quality productive forces and the goal of creating fresh business opportunities through exhibitions and exchanges. Speaking at the event, Chinese Ambassador to Australia Xiao Qian noted that the economic structures of China and Australia are highly complementary, describing mutually beneficial cooperation as the defining feature of relations between both nations. He highlighted that China is advancing the development of new-quality productive forces, while Australia has introduced the Future Made in Australia plan to boost local manufacturing capabilities, adding that the two strategies are highly compatible. Xiao emphasized that both countries can leverage each other’s strengths, collaborate effectively, and jointly build green, secure, and sustainable future industrial chains.

Andrew Robb, former Australian minister of trade, investment, and tourism, also addressed the gathering as chair of the ACETIE Organising Committee, noting that China leads the world in renewable energy, energy storage and distribution, and shipbuilding. He stressed that Australia has many opportunities to work with China, share expertise, and reap benefits from cooperation. The three-day event, themed “New-quality productive forces benefiting the promising future of Australia and China,” is jointly organized by the Australia-China Business Council and the China Chamber of Commerce in Australia. It has attracted over 100 exhibitors from both countries, with more than 10,000 visitors expected to attend.
