Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval for Zainab Marwa as NDDC Board Member

Abuja, June 4, 2026 — The President has formally requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of Dr Zainab Marwa as a member of the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The request was conveyed in a letter sent to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and presented during Thursday’s plenary session.

In the correspondence, the President explained that Marwa is nominated to represent the North-East geopolitical zone on the NDDC board.

He noted that the nomination aligns with Section 2(2) of the Niger Delta Development Commission Establishment Act.

According to the letter, the appointment is intended to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Abdulrazak Namdas, who previously represented the North-East on the board.

It was further disclosed that Namdas stepped down on March 30 to pursue the governorship ticket in Adamawa State.

The President expressed confidence that the Senate would give due consideration and approve Marwa’s appointment to the board.

Following the presentation, the Senate President referred the request to the Senate Committee on NDDC for screening and further legislative action.

The committee is expected to submit its report to plenary within one to two weeks.
