XEJet Ltd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Abuja to create the XEJet Centre for Aerospace and Space Engineering, a new academic hub aimed at advancing aeronautical and astronautical education in Nigeria.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of XEJet, Emmanuel Iza, made this known in a statement on Monday in Lagos, noting that the initiative will strengthen Nigeria’s role in the global aviation and space sectors.
“At our Flight Support Service facility groundbreaking in January 2025, we committed to positioning Nigerian aviation on the international stage and empowering young aerospace engineers to innovate and compete globally,” Iza said.
He described the new centre as the first step in a long-term strategy to develop local talent, infrastructure, and research capabilities in aerospace education.
The project will be executed in two phases. The first phase will focus on equipping priority laboratories within the University of Abuja, enabling immediate teaching and hands-on instruction while preparing the programme for National Universities Commission (NUC) and Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) accreditation.
The second phase will see the construction of a purpose-built, energy-efficient academic complex, fully aligned with COREN Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) standards, funded and delivered by XEJet.
To promote industry relevance and reward excellence, XEJet will automatically offer employment to the top three graduates of the programme each year for ten years, subject to meeting standard employability criteria.
Prof. Abdulfatai Jimoh, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Abuja, highlighted the importance of combining classroom learning with industrial exposure to produce employable graduates.
He added that the collaboration with XEJet will enhance the quality and standards of Nigeria’s aeronautical and astronautical engineering education, helping achieve objectives set by NUC and COREN for engineering disciplines.
“This partnership is a milestone for aerospace education in Nigeria and will provide students with both practical and academic opportunities to thrive in the industry,” Jimoh said.
