Abuja, June 24, 2026 – The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has announced the temporary suspension of Chief Mike Ozekhome from the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) as disciplinary proceedings against him continue.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Akanbi.
According to the statement, the decision was taken in line with Paragraph 26(6) of the guidelines governing the conferment of the SAN rank and matters relating to its administration.
The committee explained that the suspension would remain in effect pending the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings currently before the LPPC’s Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee, as well as other related matters under consideration.
It stated that the measure was necessary to preserve the integrity, honour and reputation associated with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria while the issues under review are being examined.
As a result, Ozekhome is barred from presenting or describing himself as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria until the disciplinary process is concluded and a final decision is reached.
The LPPC reiterated its commitment to maintaining professional standards within the legal profession, stressing that ethical conduct, accountability and discipline remain essential to preserving public trust in the SAN designation.
The committee added that its actions were guided by the need to ensure that the rank continues to command respect and confidence among members of the public and the legal community.
