KASUPDA Orders Statewide Inventory of Buildings Under High-Tension Power Lines

The Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) has directed a statewide inventory of structures built under or close to high-tension electricity lines.

The directive was issued on Monday by the Authority’s Director-General, Abdurrahman Yahya, during a meeting with officials of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in Kaduna.

Yahya explained that the move is aimed at tackling encroachment on transmission right of way corridors and reducing the risk of loss of lives and property. He expressed concern over the increasing development of buildings within restricted transmission zones and reaffirmed the Authority’s readiness to work with relevant stakeholders to enforce urban planning regulations.

He also called on TCN to step up public awareness campaigns, especially on social media platforms, to educate residents on approved safety clearances for transmission infrastructure.

Speaking earlier, TCN’s General Manager in Kaduna, Mr Nasir Fada, said the visit was to seek regulatory backing in addressing right of way violations and the vandalism of power facilities.

Fada referenced previous incidents in the state that led to fatalities and damage to property, stressing the urgency of preventive measures.

Both agencies agreed to strengthen collaboration to protect critical infrastructure and ensure the safety of residents.Tools
