Woman docked for alleged theft of goods valued at N14m

At the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday, a 41-year-old woman, Helen Ugochukwu, was presented over allegations of stealing and converting property valued at N14 million.

She faces a two-count charge bordering on theft and conversion of assets.

The defendant, whose residential address was not disclosed, denied the allegations when the charges were read to her.

According to the prosecution led by Insp. Adegeshin Famuyiwa, the incident occurred on January 19 at about 9:30 a.m. around the Allison Market area in Ikorodu.

He told the court that the accused allegedly received 50 units of inverters worth N14 million, alongside N200,000 in cash, from a complainant identified as Mrs. Victoria Owolabi, and was said to have unlawfully taken possession of the items.

Following police investigation, she was arrested in connection with the case.

The alleged offences are said to contravene Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The magistrate, A. O. Ogbe, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in the same amount, ordering that their addresses be properly verified.

The case has been scheduled to return before the court on April 30 for further mention.
