Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank after less than eight months in charge, following Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United.
The loss left Spurs 16th in the Premier League table, just five points above the relegation zone, amid a prolonged slump in form.
The North London side are now winless in their last eight league matches — their longest run without a victory since October 2008. They have managed only two wins in their past 17 Premier League games, collecting just 12 points in that period.
Frank, who took over in June after the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou, signed a contract running until 2028. However, he struggled to significantly improve the club’s domestic fortunes despite a more encouraging showing in Europe.
Under the Dane, Spurs recorded seven wins, eight draws and 11 defeats in the league this season. In the Champions League, they fared better, securing automatic qualification for the last 16 after finishing fourth in their group.
Tottenham’s domestic cup campaigns also ended early. They were eliminated by Newcastle in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup in October and knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round by Aston Villa last month.
The club is yet to announce a successor.
