Mercy Yohanna emerged as the overall champion at the inaugural Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) President and 2025–2027 Exco Invitational Kitty held in Abuja.
The tournament, hosted at the Goodluck Jonathan Golf Club, saw Yohanna, with a handicap of 28, card 93 gross and 65 net to secure the top spot.
Yohanna described her victory as memorable and encouraging, attributing her performance to discipline, patience, and consistency on the course. She praised the association’s leadership for organising a well-structured competition aimed at raising the standard of women’s golf in Nigeria.
In the Ladies Division One category, S.J. Marcus finished second on countback after scoring 81 gross and 67 net. Justina Gideon claimed Best Gross with 73, while Pat Ozoemene was runner-up gross with 75. Lydia Anenga won Division Two, with Udoo Ugbor and Helen Mark topping the Veteran Ladies and Veteran Women categories, respectively.
In the Men’s Division One, A.O. Ayanbode returned 79 gross and 63 net to win, followed by E.O. Alade. Chief Samuel Anyamele (Onwa) won the Super Veteran title and announced a N10 million donation to support Nigeria’s hosting of the All Africa Challenge Trophy, scheduled for November 1–7 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club. He emphasised that hosting the event would boost Nigeria’s global image, tourism, and economic growth.
LGAN President Dr. Lami Onayi Ahmed welcomed nearly 200 participants to the Valentine’s Day-themed tournament, celebrating love, unity, and sportsmanship. She commended dignitaries, sponsors, and special guests for their support, reaffirming her executive team’s commitment to developing women’s golf nationally and successfully hosting the continental championship.
Event Chairman Engr. Andrew Yakubu and AVM B.D. Solomon, Captain of the Goodluck Jonathan Golf Club, praised the executive committee for organisational excellence and for creating a platform that fosters unity, talent, and sportsmanship.
Highlights of the event included Prince Vince Osawe’s hole-in-one on Hole 13, the decoration of the new president and Exco members, and induction of AACT ambassadors.
