The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has called an emergency meeting with native doctors, traditional priests and priestesses in response to growing security challenges in Edo State and across the country.
A statement issued on Friday by Chief Victor Nosakhare on behalf of the Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor, confirmed the development.
The meeting is scheduled to hold at 12 noon on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the Oba’s Palace in Benin City.
According to the statement, the gathering has been convened under the authority of the monarch and is to be treated with utmost urgency by all invited participants.
It added that the engagement is intended to explore traditional approaches that could complement ongoing government efforts to address insecurity.
In a related development, the Benin Traditional Council announced that it will host youth leaders, known as Okaighele, at the same venue on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the same time.
The palace explained that both engagements are part of wider consultations aimed at strengthening community participation in security efforts amid rising concerns over kidnapping and cult related violence.
The initiatives underscore the increasing involvement of traditional institutions in supporting formal security operations across Edo State.
