LG Commissions New Health Centre in Akuro, Renovates Facility in Bode, Ibadan

The Ibadan South-West Local Government on Monday commissioned a newly built modern health centre in Akuro and unveiled an upgraded and renovated health facility in Bode, both located in Ibadan.

The projects are part of the council’s efforts to improve access to quality healthcare and strengthen service delivery at the grassroots level.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Kehinde Akande, said the interventions reflect his administration’s commitment to improving the wellbeing of residents through better healthcare infrastructure.

He said the facilities were designed to enhance medical services, reduce maternal and infant mortality rates, and provide residents with access to modern and functional healthcare delivery systems.

Akande attributed the success of the projects to the broader health sector reforms of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, noting that the administration has significantly improved healthcare infrastructure across the state.

According to him, the governor’s policies have repositioned Oyo State as a leader in healthcare delivery through facility upgrades, expansion of health insurance coverage and reforms in the primary healthcare system.

He expressed appreciation to the governor, describing him as a key driver of developmental progress in the state, and commended political leaders, community stakeholders, legislative representatives and council staff for supporting the completion of the projects.

Akande also highlighted other achievements of his administration, including the ongoing construction of a modern library, ICT centre, vocational training facility and a new local government office complex.

He further listed infrastructure projects such as the provision of a patrol vehicle to the Orita Challenge Divisional Police Station and the drilling of boreholes in several communities including Abogun Compound, Popo, Bolumole, NITEL and Oke-Ado.

Road construction projects, he said, have also been carried out in areas such as Idi-Are to Popoyemoja, Fijabi Road, Iyaganku Road, Olubadan Stadium and Alalubosa, alongside the installation of streetlights in several parts of the local government.

The chairman urged residents to make proper use of the new health facilities to ensure sustained development and encourage further government interventions.

He also called on citizens to remain vigilant and security conscious, urging them to report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities amid ongoing security concerns in parts of the country.

Akande expressed sympathy over recent abductions in Oriire Local Government and prayed for the safe return of victims.

He appealed for continued support for the administration and encouraged residents to back the ruling party in future elections, saying it would ensure continuity of development projects across all levels of government.
