NPHCDA Partners with Ekiti Government to Train 800 Health Workers Over 13 Days

A total of 800 frontline health workers from all 16 local government areas of Ekiti State have commenced a 13-day refresher training aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery across the state.

The training initiative is being implemented through a partnership between the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and the Ekiti State Government. The programme is part of broader efforts to improve the skills and efficiency of frontline health professionals, thereby strengthening the state’s primary healthcare system.

Speaking at the training venue in Ado-Ekiti, the NPHCDA State Coordinator, Mr. Adekunle Olalekan, explained that the objective is to build the capacity of public health workers to better meet community health needs.

Participants in the training include skilled birth attendants, nurses, midwives, community health officers (CHOs), junior community health extension workers, and community health extension workers (CHEWs).

Olalekan noted that this is the second phase of the programme in Ekiti. Earlier in the year, 500 health workers underwent similar training, bringing the total number trained under the initiative in the state to 1,300.

He expressed appreciation to both the agency and the state government for their commitment to healthcare development.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Ekiti State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Rasheed Adepoju, described the training as timely and impactful. He emphasized that the programme would not only boost the morale of the health workers but also enhance their competence and service delivery capacity.

According to Adepoju, the training is expected to significantly improve healthcare outcomes across the state’s 16 LGAs by equipping frontline workers with updated knowledge and practical skills.
