Governor Seyi Makinde has officially informed the Oyo State House of Assembly of his plan to embark on a one-month vacation, scheduled from August 29 to September 29.
The notification was conveyed in a formal letter sent to the Assembly, which was acknowledged and read during an emergency plenary session on Tuesday, presided over by Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.
According to Ogundoyin, the governor’s communication complies with Section 190(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The section mandates that a governor must formally notify the legislature before taking a leave of absence.
In the letter, Governor Makinde requested permission to proceed on vacation and announced that his deputy, Barr. Bayo Lawal, would assume the role of acting governor throughout the period.
“During my absence, Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal will serve as Acting Governor. I intend to resume my duties on Monday, September 29,” the letter stated.
Speaker Ogundoyin confirmed receipt of the letter and assured that the Assembly would fully support the deputy governor in carrying out the responsibilities of the office during Makinde’s leave.
He reiterated the House’s dedication to upholding constitutional provisions and ensuring uninterrupted governance in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that with the formal notice submitted and acknowledged, Deputy Governor Lawal will take over full executive duties from August 29 until the governor’s return.
It is also worth noting that the Assembly began its annual recess on August 3 and is expected to reconvene on September 16.
