New Partnership Targets Better Healthcare for Nigerian Women

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health (OSSAP-WH), has initiated steps to harmonise programmes aimed at tackling key health challenges facing women across the country.

Dr Adanna Steinacker, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, made this known during an engagement with women leaders, civil society organisations and representatives of non-governmental groups in Abuja on Tuesday.

The session, jointly organised by the ministry and OSSAP-WH, focused on building strategic partnerships to strengthen policy coordination and service delivery in women’s healthcare.

Steinacker said her office was implementing a nationwide strategy to place women’s health at the centre of Nigeria’s development agenda.

She explained that OSSAP-WH was inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu on Sept. 11, 2025, with the introduction of its flagship mandate, RenewHER.

According to her, RenewHER — which stands for Health, Equity and Reform — is designed to align women-focused health policies through collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Women Affairs.

She noted that the initiative is anchored on three core pillars, one of which is a digital media and advocacy platform.

“The platform was created to bridge the significant information gap surrounding women and girls’ health, especially in understanding available government services and how to access them.

“By prioritising digital engagement, we aim to share credible, evidence-based information that will improve health awareness and literacy nationwide,” she said.

She added that the second pillar centres on region-based campaigns, implemented alongside the Ministry of Health, to identify pressing challenges and deploy targeted interventions.

“The third pillar focuses on convening coalitions, symposia and summits to foster partnerships and strengthen a collaborative ecosystem that promotes women’s health across Nigeria,” she added.

Steinacker stressed that the ministry was committed to dismantling bureaucratic barriers and advancing women’s health through a unified, multisectoral approach.

Also speaking, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary, Health Services and Environment Secretariat, reaffirmed her office’s commitment to supporting programmes that enhance the wellbeing and quality of life of Nigerian women.
