Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano have arrested six individuals during a targeted operation against suspected drug hubs around the Bayero University old campus.
The Kano Strategic Command disclosed that the arrests followed a raid carried out in areas identified as hotspots for illicit drug activities.
According to the command, the operation—code-named “Operation Sharar Mafaka”—was launched after a formal complaint by the university authorities over rising concerns about drug use and related activities within and around the campus.
The suspects were reportedly apprehended for unlawful entry and involvement in the sale and consumption of banned substances in the vicinity.
Officials said various items linked to the illegal activities were seized and later destroyed to prevent further use.
The command emphasized that the action underscores its determination to maintain a safe and drug-free environment for students, staff, and residents in the area.
It also noted that the success of the operation was made possible through collaboration with the university management, whose report prompted swift intervention.
The agency warned against using educational institutions or public spaces for drug-related activities, adding that enforcement efforts would continue across the state.
Members of the public were encouraged to support the campaign against drug abuse and trafficking by providing timely information to authorities, as efforts intensify to curb the menace
