A member of the House of Representatives, Abubakar Nalaraba, has stepped down from the Nasarawa State governorship race ahead of the 2027 elections and shifted his focus to a senatorial bid.
Nalaraba announced his decision during a press briefing in Lafia, explaining that it followed extensive consultations with party leaders, constituents, and elders across the state, particularly after Governor Abdullahi Sule indicated support for Senator Ahmed Wadada as his preferred successor.
He said the move was driven by a commitment to party unity, political maturity, and the broader interest of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State.
According to him, aligning with the governor’s choice reflects a spirit of cooperation aimed at strengthening the party’s chances in the upcoming elections.
Nalaraba emphasised that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as a lack of ambition or capability, but rather a deliberate sacrifice to maintain cohesion within the party.
He pledged to mobilise his supporters and political network across all local government areas, wards, and senatorial districts to back the party’s preferred candidate in both the primaries and the general election.
The lawmaker also declared his intention to contest the Nasarawa South Senatorial seat, citing encouragement from stakeholders in the zone.
He noted that his decision to pursue a Senate position was influenced by his experience and performance as a two-term member of the House of Representatives.
Nalaraba added that his existing political structure would remain active and be redirected toward his senatorial campaign.
He expressed appreciation to his supporters, campaign team, community leaders, and various groups for their backing throughout his governorship ambition, assuring them of continued engagement in his next political pursuit.
