Maj.-Gen. Ahmadu-Bello Muhammad, Commandant of the Nigerian Army Depot, has underscored the importance of leadership and management as the backbone of a functional and effective military. Speaking at the opening of Leadership and Management Seminar Course 46 at the Warrant Officers’ Academy in Jaji Military Cantonment, Kaduna State, he said decisions made by leaders at all levels directly influence operational success.
The seminar, themed “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Enhanced Operational Effectiveness: Leadership Imperative for Modern Military,” aimed to build the leadership capacity of warrant officers and sharpen their management skills. Muhammad stressed that the evolving nature of warfare demands high standards in military leadership, particularly among junior leaders, and urged participants to draw on personal field experiences to enhance realism in training. He noted that the programme would help participants become role models, strengthen team spirit, and improve operational effectiveness.
Earlier, the Commandant of the Warrant Officers’ Academy, Brig.-Gen. Aminu Umar, explained that the seminar was designed to bridge the leadership and management gap between commissioned officers and enlisted personnel. He said it provided a platform for sharing perspectives, strengthening inter-service collaboration, and equipping warrant officers with the skills needed to take on greater leadership and managerial responsibilities. Umar added that the seminar aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy of consolidating the transformation of the Nigerian Army.
