Germany Warns Israel Against Displacing Palestinians

BERLIN – German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul reiterated his government’s firm stance on Monday against any Israeli seizure of the Gaza Strip or the West Bank.

Speaking in Berlin before a departure to India, Wadephul stated that Germany “categorically rejects any proposals that would lead to the displacement or dispossession of Palestinians.” He emphasized that the coastal enclave of Gaza must constitute a part of a future independent Palestinian state, achievable through a negotiated two-state solution.

The Foreign Minister applied the same principle to the occupied West Bank, voicing Germany’s opposition to any Israeli initiatives aimed at annexing territories, which he stated would be a breach of international law.

Wadephul also addressed the severe conditions within Gaza, describing the humanitarian situation as “desperate.” He stressed the urgent need to end the ongoing combat and secure the release of all hostages still detained by Hamas.

Furthermore, Wadephul urged the United States, regional Arab nations, and the European Union to collaborate and develop concrete proposals for the governance and reconstruction of Gaza once the conflict concludes.
