The Acting Chairman of Egor Local Government, Mr Osaro Eribo, on Monday denied claims that Governor Monday Okpebholo interfered with council funds, describing them as untrue. Speaking to journalists in Benin, Eribo stated that sufficient funds were available after staff salaries to implement development projects.
He said that since assuming office, the council had delivered projects including school renovations, boreholes, secretariat renovations, purchase of 10 transformers, and construction work at Ogida Market. Although communities requested 57 transformers, only 10 were purchased, with one transformer allocated to each of the council’s 10 wards.
Eribo expressed confidence that residents would support his continuation in office, citing visible performance. He also announced plans for massive grading of rural roads during the dry season, praising Governor Okpebholo for timely fund releases.
“Before I came on board, people said councils were poorly funded, but I discovered that claim is total blackmail. What we receive is enough to execute at least two projects after salaries,” he said.
