The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), following his recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement released on Tuesday, the APC’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Seye Oladejo, described Rhodes-Vivour as a politician who lacked clear ideology or consistency, accusing him of pursuing personal ambition rather than service.
Oladejo noted that Rhodes-Vivour had moved through several political parties in a short time—ranging from the lesser-known Kowa Party, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and then to the Labour Party (LP), where he emerged as governorship flagbearer in 2023—before now pitching his tent with the ADC.
“Each defection leaves behind nothing but confusion and betrayal,” Oladejo alleged, adding that Lagosians had seen through what he termed Rhodes-Vivour’s opportunism and would not entrust him with their mandate in 2027.
The APC spokesman maintained that politics required ideology and loyalty, both of which he claimed Rhodes-Vivour lacked. According to him, the constant search for new platforms to “exploit and abandon” only underlined his desperation for power.
Oladejo further urged the Labour Party not to lament his exit, stressing that Lagos could not be turned into a “political experiment for serial defectors.” He added that governance was serious business and not “a reality show where individuals change costumes each season.”
The APC insisted that Lagosians would continue to support the ruling party, which, according to Oladejo, had demonstrated capacity and vision for the state’s development, unlike “opportunists who cannot be trusted to keep commitments.”
