Akure, June 5, 2026 — The Ondo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for suspected kidnappers who abducted a nine-year-old boy in Ugbosi Quarters, Idogun, Ose Local Government Area of the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Akure by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
Jimoh said the incident was reported at about 2:30 a.m. by two residents of the community, Mr Olaosebikan Isaac and Mr Joel Owalekan.
He explained that around 1:30 a.m., armed men reportedly invaded the area, firing gunshots into the air and causing widespread panic among residents.
According to him, the attackers broke into the home of Mr Isaac during the invasion.
He said Isaac managed to escape into nearby bushes to save his life, but his nine-year-old son, identified as Olaosebikan Victor, was taken away by the assailants.
Jimoh added that Mr Owalekan also reported that his residence was damaged during the attack as the gunmen attempted to force their way inside, forcing him to flee for safety.
He stated that following the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer and his team, working alongside the Amotekun Corps, immediately moved to the scene and began a coordinated search-and-rescue operation.
Security operatives, he said, are currently combing nearby forests and possible escape routes in an effort to rescue the victim and apprehend those responsible.
He noted that investigations have commenced, with relevant materials already gathered and documented to aid the ongoing probe.
The command, according to him, is collaborating with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to ensure the perpetrators are tracked down and arrested.
Jimoh assured residents that efforts are ongoing to secure the safe return of the abducted child.
He urged members of the public to remain calm, stay vigilant, and provide useful information that could assist security agencies in the investigation.
He also encouraged anyone with credible information about the incident or suspects to report to the nearest police station or security authority.
