Anambra School Principal Supports WAEC’s CBT Initiative, Calls for Full Adoption

The Principal of Ado Girls’ Secondary School, Onitsha, Mrs. Chinelo Okocha, has applauded the successful use of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) in the 2025 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Speaking in Awka on Friday, Okocha described the development as a major milestone in strengthening the quality and credibility of public examinations in Nigeria.

She noted that the CBT model had proven to be both innovative and transformative, addressing long-standing challenges in the nation’s examination system. According to her, the digital format reduces human errors in marking, speeds up result processing, and ensures that candidates receive accurate and timely feedback.

Okocha added that by minimizing reliance on paper, logistics, and manual handling of scripts, CBT offers a more sustainable and eco-friendly alternative.

“With CBT, malpractice is significantly reduced. The system promotes fairness and integrity, thereby boosting the credibility of WAEC certificates,” she said.

The principal emphasized that the adoption of CBT aligns Nigeria with international best practices, as many global examination bodies have already embraced digital testing. She explained that the system equips students with ICT skills, builds their confidence, and prepares them for higher education and global opportunities where digital literacy is essential.

She urged stakeholders and policymakers to accelerate the transition to CBT, stressing that it is no longer optional but the pathway to credible, transparent, and globally competitive education.

“Our experience at Ado Girls’ Secondary School shows that the future of public examinations in Nigeria lies in computer-based testing. The smooth execution of this year’s WAEC CBT proves that, with proper planning and infrastructure, schools can easily adapt to the system,” Okocha added.
