The Chairman of Agege Local Government, Mr Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, has called on residents to actively participate in the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) membership registration exercise.
Obasa made the appeal during a visit to one of the registration centres in Agege, where he emphasised that democratic governance thrives when citizens take ownership of their political future.
He stressed that governance should not be treated as a spectator activity, describing it as a collective responsibility that requires active participation and engagement from the people.
The registration exercise, which runs from January 5 to January 25, provides residents with the opportunity to take part in the political process and contribute to leadership development at the local, state and national levels.
“When you register, you gain the power to influence policy direction and shape the future of your community. Membership strengthens our collective ability to drive progress, development and inclusive governance,” he said.
The chairman explained that the registration process is simple, free of charge and open to eligible citizens who possess a National Identity Number (NIN) and Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC).
He urged youths, professionals, business owners, students and community leaders to take advantage of the exercise, noting that broad participation promotes representative governance and strengthens democratic institutions.
Obasa reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to promoting democratic values and civic participation as key drivers of sustainable development in Agege, Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.
He advised residents to complete their registration within the stipulated period and actively exercise their civic rights, assuring them that every voice matters in shaping a better future.
