ARD-KWASUTH Commends AbdulRazaq for Paying 2024 Accoutrement Allowance, Improving Doctors’ Welfare

The Association of Resident Doctors at the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (ARD-KWASUTH) has commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for approving and paying the 2024 accoutrement allowance to resident doctors in the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Ilorin, the association’s president, Dr Abdulfatah Abdulazeez, also praised the governor for approving an upward review of House Officers’ remuneration to reflect current realities and improve welfare for young medical officers across the state.

Abdulazeez said the interventions had strengthened the teaching hospital’s capacity to recruit House Officers, address manpower shortages, reduce workload pressures and enhance overall service delivery to patients in Kwara State hospitals.

In recognition of the governor’s support for medical training and welfare, he disclosed that ARD-KWASUTH conferred an Award of Excellence on AbdulRazaq for his outstanding contributions to residency training programmes.

He noted that as 2026 begins, many resident doctors are preparing for professional examinations, clinical updates and research activities, including proposal development and dissertation writing, aimed at improving skills, knowledge and patient care.

The ARD-KWASUTH president recalled that in 2025, Kwara State became the first in the federation to receive the Medical Residency Training Fund, which supports resident doctors’ education, exposure and specialist development.

He expressed optimism that the governor would sustain the momentum by approving and fully paying the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund as well as the 2025 accoutrement allowance for eligible doctors.

According to him, sustained support for resident doctors would enhance training, academic growth and professional development, ultimately leading to improved healthcare delivery and better patient outcomes for the people of Kwara State.
