Man Arraigned in Ado-Ekiti Over Alleged Receipt of Stolen Phones

The police on Wednesday arraigned a 40-year-old man, Awopegba Ademola, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly receiving stolen mobile phones.

The defendant, whose address was not disclosed, is facing a one-count charge of receiving stolen property. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Prosecuting counsel, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the alleged offence was committed on Jan. 15 in Ado-Ekiti. He alleged that the defendant received 13 stolen mobile phones from one Ahmed Tijani, knowing they were stolen.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 343(2)(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to grant an adjournment to allow time to study the case file and assemble witnesses.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned until March 24 for hearing.
