The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has congratulated Mr Olatunji Disu on his appointment as the new Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement signed by its President, Mr Olalekan Olabulo, on Wednesday in Lagos, the association described the appointment as strategic and merit-based, citing Disu’s competence and proven performance within the Nigeria Police Force.
CRAN commended President Tinubu for what it called a decision reflecting confidence in Disu’s professionalism, integrity, and leadership, particularly at a time when Nigeria is grappling with significant internal security challenges.
The association highlighted Disu’s service record across several key commands. As Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, he was credited with implementing intelligence-driven strategies that improved public safety and operational efficiency.
During his tenure as Head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Disu reportedly coordinated complex operations with tactical precision. He also served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and later in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, where he demonstrated administrative and crisis management capabilities.
As Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, Disu was said to have strengthened investigative capacity and reinforced institutional discipline.
CRAN noted that Disu had undergone specialised training both within and outside Nigeria in areas including small arms smuggling, cybercrime, forensic investigations, and strategic leadership. It said these experiences position him to address emerging security threats such as terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and organised crime.
The association expressed optimism that under his leadership, the Nigeria Police Force would see improved intelligence-led policing, enhanced collaboration with other security agencies, better welfare for officers, and increased use of modern technology in crime prevention.
CRAN reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement and professional partnership with the police in promoting peace, safety, and stability nationwide.
