Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has reached another international landmark as his 2019 single “Joro” officially earns Platinum certification in France.
The achievement was confirmed by Syndicat National de l’Édition Phonographique (SNEP) through a post on their official Instagram account, celebrating the milestone.
The post stated: “Wizkid’s track ‘Joro’ is certified. Platinum Single! 30,000,000 equivalent streams. Bravo!”
SNEP noted that “Joro” surpassed 30 million equivalent streams in the country, meeting the threshold for Platinum status.
Originally released in 2019, “Joro” is a mid-tempo Afrobeat track produced by Northboi that served as a promotional single for Wizkid’s Made in Lagos album, highlighting his signature vocals over infectious rhythms.
The song quickly became a commercial hit, setting records in Nigeria with 10 million views within its first month, and its music video earned multiple nominations at The Headies 2020, including Song of the Year.
“Joro” previously achieved Gold Certification in Canada, selling over 40,000 units, and remains one of Africa’s most-watched music videos with more than 330 million views.
In addition, the track sold over 500,000 units in the U.S. by November 2024, qualifying for RIAA Gold Certification.
With this latest recognition, Wizkid now holds five SNEP plaques, including two Diamond awards for “One Dance” and “Bella,” as well as two Gold plaques for “Boom” and his Grammy-nominated hit “Essence,” featuring Tems.
The Platinum certification for “Joro” underscores Wizkid’s continuing impact on the international music scene and the growing influence of Nigerian Afrobeats in France and beyond.
