Efforts to improve water supply in Gusau have received a major boost with the approval of a N3.8 billion rehabilitation project by the Zamfara State Government.
The decision was announced following a State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Dauda Lawal.
According to officials, the move came after the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure presented a proposal highlighting the urgent need to fix the city’s ageing and unreliable water system.
The planned intervention will focus on restoring water production and improving distribution across the state capital, with the goal of ensuring residents have better access to safe and clean water.
Authorities say the project is also expected to enhance public health and sanitation by addressing persistent shortages and service disruptions.
Funding for the initiative has already been included in the state’s 2026 budget, underscoring the government’s emphasis on critical infrastructure development.
Once completed, the state water corporation will take charge of managing and maintaining the upgraded facilities to ensure consistent service delivery over time.
Officials say the project forms part of broader efforts to tackle key development challenges and improve living conditions for residents, while urging the public to cooperate with authorities during its implementation.
