Yobe governor applauds Machina Cultural Festival celebration

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has described the Machina Cultural Festival as a cornerstone for sustaining the state’s rich traditions and cultural identity.

The governor made the remarks on Sunday during the grand finale of the Machina Cultural Festival, popularly known as MACUF, held in Machina town.

Buni assured residents that his administration would work towards the revival and strengthening of cultural festivals across Yobe as a way of preserving heritage and promoting unity.

He applauded the Machina Emirate for successfully organising the festival, which showcased colourful durbar processions, traditional wrestling contests and vibrant cultural dances.

The governor said the event reflected a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, adding that such initiatives help pass cultural values from one generation to another.

Buni also advised young people to shun drug abuse and other social vices, stressing the importance of discipline, good character and responsible conduct.

According to him, youths who live upright lives bring honour to their families, traditional institutions and the state, while positioning themselves as future leaders.

The governor further reaffirmed his government’s commitment to infrastructural development aimed at improving livelihoods and raising living standards across Yobe State.

Earlier in the day, Buni inspected the completed Machina Sesame Seeds Processing Plant as well as the Machina Modern Market, which is nearing completion.

He commended the contractor, Damuli International Company, for delivering quality work and complying with project timelines and contractual terms.

The governor was accompanied to the event by former Senate President Ahmad Lawan, Senator Musa Mustapha, Representative Tijjani Zakariya and other senior government officials, underscoring the festival’s significance to the state.
