Observed annually on June 12, the global event highlights the plight of children engaged in labour and advocates measures aimed at eliminating the practice worldwide.

This year’s theme is: “Red Card to Child Labour; Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults.”

According to her, every child deserves the opportunity to enjoy a safe childhood, receive quality education and develop their full potential in a supportive environment.

She described child labour as a grave violation of human dignity and moral responsibility, stressing that children should never be subjected to conditions that deprive them of education, health, safety and a promising future.

She emphasized the need to address the social, economic and cultural factors that make children vulnerable to exploitation while creating an enabling environment for their growth and development.

The governor’s wife further called for renewed dedication to policies and programmes that promote child protection and ensure that every child has access to opportunities for a better future.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the Healthy Living Initiative to supporting advocacy campaigns and interventions focused on improving the wellbeing, education and overall development of children across Anambra State.
