University of Uyo Microfinance Bank (UNIUYO MFB) has introduced WashLoan, a new financing initiative aimed at expanding access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene in the university community.
The program, launched in partnership with Water.org and supported by the National Association of Microfinance Banks (NAMB), is designed to provide affordable and flexible loans to households, schools, landlords, and water-related businesses to invest in sustainable water and sanitation solutions.
The Managing Director of UNIUYO MFB, Dr. Millicent Idiong, highlighted that the initiative aligns with the bank’s mission to use finance as a transformative tool, ensuring that no family or community is left without access to safe water or proper sanitation.
Stakeholders praised the program as a collaborative effort that promotes health, dignity, productivity, and resilience, with the WashLoan expected to positively impact thousands within the university and surrounding communities.
