UCH Doctors Remain on Duty Following Suspension of NARD Strike

The University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, maintained full services on Monday despite a proposed strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) initially scheduled for January 12, the association’s President, Dr. Uthman Adedeji, has said.

NARD had threatened to resume its suspended industrial action over alleged unmet demands related to welfare, promotion, allowances, and working conditions.

Dr. Adedeji said the intervention of Vice President Kashim Shettima led to a two-week suspension of the proposed strike, allowing dialogue to continue on key issues. He noted that doctors were at their duty posts attending to patients, and no in-patients were discharged.

According to Adedeji, NARD had previously suspended a strike that began on November 2, 2025, giving the government 30 days to meet commitments under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on welfare and healthcare infrastructure.

He urged doctors to remain committed to patient care while continuing to engage the government, and called on Nigerians to support the association’s demands. NARD hopes that MoU issues will be resolved by January 25, 2026, during a National Executive Council review.
