Two Men Arraigned for Stealing Property Worth N4.35 Million in Lagos

The police on Monday arraigned two men, Abubakar Idris, 22, and Abdullahi Sani, 30, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing property valued at N4,350,000.

The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, are facing charges of felony, unlawful entry, and theft. They pleaded not guilty to all counts.

The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the offences occurred on January 4 at about 1:08 p.m. at Ibiye Street, Check Point Area of Badagry. Ekpo said the defendants conspired to break into the building of one Udodi Samuel and stole 11 aluminium windows, doors, and electric wires, all valued at N4,350,000.

He added that the men were arrested the following day while attempting to sell the stolen items and handed over to the police for prosecution. The offences contravene Sections 411, 307, and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Chief Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendants bail in the sum of N2,000,000 each, with two sureties each. One surety must be gainfully employed and from the local Hausa community.

The case was adjourned until February 12 for mention.
