The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu was missing or absent from his official duties.
The statement was issued following comments by Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, who questioned the president’s visibility amid ongoing national challenges.
According to the party, through its Lagos State Spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, the President remains fully engaged in governance both domestically and internationally.
Oladejo urged political figures to focus on substantive issues rather than public perceptions or optics.
“The President is neither missing nor neglecting his constitutional responsibilities,” Oladejo said.
He explained that Tinubu is actively involved in the complex work of statecraft, including policy coordination, security oversight, diplomatic engagements, and economic reforms.
“Effective governance is not measured by constant public appearances or media updates. It is reflected in the quality of decisions, policies implemented, and outcomes achieved in the national interest,” he added.
Oladejo emphasized that the President continues to discharge his duties with dedication, guided by the mandate entrusted to him by Nigerians.
He noted that the administration remains active across several areas, including economic reform, national security, and international diplomacy, aiming to reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth and global relevance.
The spokesman advised political leaders to offer constructive ideas and alternatives that would advance national development, rather than raising issues that could create unnecessary public concern.
Obi had previously expressed concerns about the President’s whereabouts, citing what he described as economic challenges, insecurity, and limited direct engagement from the presidency.
In a statement posted on his verified X account, Obi alleged that President Tinubu spent 196 days outside the country in 2025, exceeding the time spent in Nigeria, and claimed Nigerians had not heard directly from him since December 2025.
It is recalled that President Tinubu left Lagos on December 28 for Europe to conclude his end-of-year break and prepare for an official visit to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
He later arrived in Abu Dhabi on Sunday to participate in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, which officially began on Monday.
