DEPOWA honours Oghogho Musa for outstanding leadership

The Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) has celebrated its immediate past President, Oghogho Musa, for her transformative and people-focused leadership during her tenure.

Musa, whose husband, Gen. Christopher Musa, now serves as the Minister of Defence, led the association with dedication, enhancing family welfare and expanding community service initiatives.

At a Send-Off Dinner held in her honour, the current DEPOWA President, Mernan Oluyede, praised Musa’s tenure for its compassion, inclusivity, and innovative programs that emphasized women empowerment, youth development, and social outreach.

Oluyede highlighted that Musa’s leadership reinforced the idea that strong families are the foundation of strong institutions and national security, while also fostering unity among service spousal associations.

She credited Musa with broadening DEPOWA’s support for vulnerable members of the military and police communities and commended her mentorship and commitment to ensuring continuity within the association.

“Under your guidance, DEPOWA refocused on family welfare, women empowerment, youth development, and community engagement,” Oluyede said. “Your vision reaffirmed the principle that strong families are the backbone of strong institutions and a secure nation. This dinner allows us to celebrate the milestones achieved during your tenure and the lasting legacy of service you leave behind.”

Musa, in her remarks, emphasized that the strength of the association lies in shared purpose and sisterhood rather than positions or timelines. She described her tenure as one of the most fulfilling periods of her life, characterized by teamwork, sacrifice, and dedicated service.

She noted that the progress achieved, including the strengthening of organizational structures and expansion of welfare and empowerment programs, was the result of collective effort by women supporting one another with courage and empathy.

Particularly dear to Musa’s heart is the DEPOWA College, which she said must be completed as a symbol of continuity, education, and commitment to the future of members’ children. She urged the new leadership to maintain momentum, deliver the project with unity, and preserve the gains of past initiatives with integrity.

Expressing gratitude for the support extended to her family, Musa reaffirmed her continued connection to DEPOWA, urging members to see the transition not as a farewell but as a continuation of shared service, sisterhood, and a lasting legacy.

The Send-Off Dinner was attended by former DEPOWA presidents, leaders of sister service spousal associations, senior officers’ spouses, and other stakeholders, who celebrated Musa’s contributions and pledged ongoing collaboration to advance the welfare of military and police families across the country.
