TCN Blames Kaduna Power Outage on Collapsed Transmission Tower

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has explained that the recent power outage in parts of Kaduna was caused by the collapse of one of its towers in Rigasa community.

Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, said in a statement on Saturday that tower No. 7 on the Kaduna town line I and II gave way on September 18 after a heavy downpour and windstorm.

She noted that investigations at the site revealed that vandals had removed vital components of the structure, which left it vulnerable to collapse.

According to her, the incident disrupted power supply to several load centres of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO), particularly those serving parts of Kaduna South.

“To cushion the impact, TCN has advised KAEDCO to connect its 33kV Mogadishu feeder to the 33kV Abakwa feeder so customers on the Mogadishu line can still access electricity,” she explained.

Mbah added that communities such as Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu and Kaduna North were not affected and continue to enjoy normal supply.

She further disclosed that TCN engineers were already dismantling the damaged tower to clear the site and begin erecting a replacement structure.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this outage has caused residents in Southern Kaduna. Work is ongoing round the clock to restore supply as quickly as possible,” Mbah assured.
