Award-winning blockbuster Son of the Soil is set to make its United States premiere at the 34th Pan-African Film Festival (PAFF), its producers have announced.
the annual festival will hold from Feb. 7 to Feb. 22 in Los Angeles, California.
The film’s director, Chee Keong Cheung, announced the selection in a post on his Instagram page, @cheekeongcheung.
“Son of the Soil has been selected for its U.S. premiere at the 34th Pan-African Film Festival (PAFF) in Los Angeles,” the post read.
“The PAFF selection marks another milestone in the film’s global journey and reflects the growing international appetite for ambitious, cross-market African storytelling.”
Produced by Action Xtreme and Sovereign Films in association with Boxonia Blueprint, the film features a star-studded cast including Patience Ozokwo, Ireti Doyle and Taye Arimoro.
Other cast members include Sunshine Roseman, Phillip Asaya, Ijelu Folajimi, Damilola Ogunsi, Sharon Rotimi and Emeka Golden.
Directed by Chee Keong Cheung and produced by British-Nigerian actor Razaaq Adoti, Son of the Soil explores Lagos’ criminal underworld through high-intensity action scenes, including gunfights and chases.
Shot in Lagos, the film follows the story of Zion Ladejo, played by Adoti, a former Special Operations soldier who returns home after the murder of his sister.
Haunted by the loss, he launches a violent campaign against a powerful drug syndicate in a quest for vengeance and redemption.
the Pan-African Film Festival was founded in 1992 by Danny Glover, Ja’Net DuBois and Ayuko Babu.
It is the largest and longest-running Black film and arts festival in the United States and is held annually during Black History Month, showcasing over 150 films and artworks from across the African diaspora.
