Sokoto, June 4, 2026 – The Sokoto State Government, in partnership with Plan International Nigeria, has approved a new onboarding and orientation manual for newly recruited teachers as part of efforts to enhance teaching quality and strengthen classroom standards across the state.
The approval followed a stakeholders’ meeting held to review and adapt the document in line with recommendations from the Abuja Education Roundtable and the revised Teacher Training Guide.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmed Ala, said the manual is designed to improve the capacity of teachers and raise the quality of teaching and learning outcomes in schools.
He explained that the document provides structured guidance on modern teaching methods and classroom practices aimed at improving instructional delivery.
According to him, the recent recruitment of new teachers by the state government was intended to address staffing gaps in schools and improve access to quality education.
He, however, noted that recruitment alone is not sufficient without proper training and orientation to equip teachers with the skills required for effective classroom performance.
“The purpose of this manual is to ensure that teachers are adequately prepared to deliver quality education and maintain improved standards across schools in the state,” he said.
Prof. Ala added that the administration of Governor Ahmad Aliyu remains committed to prioritising education under its nine-point Smart Agenda, which focuses on strengthening key sectors for sustainable development.
He said the initiative reflects the government’s broader goal of improving learning outcomes and securing a better future for children in the state.
Also speaking, the Project Coordinator of Plan International Nigeria, Mr Joseph Julius, described the review and adoption of the manual as a strategic step towards improving the quality of education delivery in Sokoto.
He said the organisation continues to prioritise education in its programmes, with a strong focus on enhancing learning outcomes in collaboration with government institutions.
According to him, the initiative is designed to support a standardised and practical onboarding process that will help newly recruited teachers adapt effectively to classroom demands.
Julius added that the manual will serve as a key resource for strengthening teaching capacity and ensuring consistency in learning delivery across schools in the state.
He reaffirmed Plan International’s commitment to supporting education reforms aimed at improving access to quality and inclusive learning opportunities for children.
