Police begin enforcement of tinted glass permit in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced strict enforcement of regulations on the use of tinted vehicle glass, following directives from the Inspector-General of Police.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Lagos.

She explained that the operation, which kicked off on Thursday, is aimed at improving security, deterring crime, and ensuring motorists comply with traffic laws.

“Motorists with tinted glasses are required to obtain an approved permit via www.possap.gov.ng. Vehicle owners unwilling to process the permit are strongly advised to remove such tints or replace the factory-fitted glasses with transparent ones, in line with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 2004.

“Vehicles found with tinted glasses but without the requisite permit will be impounded, and offenders prosecuted,” she said.

Adebisi further urged motorists to always carry valid documents and cooperate with police officers during lawful checks.

She added that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, had directed personnel to conduct the exercise professionally and warned against harassment or extortion, noting that erring officers would be sanctioned.

Appealing for public cooperation, Adebisi reassured residents that the measure was not intended to inconvenience compliant road users but to strengthen safety across the state.

She also encouraged Lagosians to promptly report any cases of misconduct, emphasizing that channels such as the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) hotline and official social media platforms remain open for citizens to seek redress.

The spokesperson concluded by reiterating the command’s commitment to enforcing the law fairly, safeguarding lives and property, and maintaining public trust in the police service.
