The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of its National Caretaker Committee chaired by Abdulrahman Mohammed, has announced March 28 and 29 as the dates for its national convention, scheduled to hold in Abuja.
The decision was contained in a communiqué issued after the party’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday night.
The communiqué was presented by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, at the end of the meeting, which took place at the official residence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Signed by Mohammed and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the communiqué also outlined the timetable for the party’s congresses, with ward and local government congresses slated for February, while state congresses are expected to hold in March.
According to the NEC, the National Caretaker Committee, working alongside the National Organising Secretary and other relevant party organs, has been mandated to release comprehensive guidelines and modalities for the conduct of the congresses.
The committee was further instructed to ensure that all processes strictly comply with the PDP constitution, guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and existing judicial pronouncements.
The NEC also unanimously reaffirmed all resolutions and decisions taken at its 104th emergency meeting held on December 7, 2025, declaring them valid, binding and fully operational.
It emphasised that all actions arising from the resolutions of the December meeting were carried out in accordance with the PDP Constitution, the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act, and relevant court rulings.
In addition, the NEC welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the party’s leadership structure and directed INEC to recognise the duly constituted caretaker committee.
The committee resolved that all party organs, members and stakeholders must continue to act in strict obedience to subsisting court judgments and judicial directives.
Consequently, the NEC called on INEC and other relevant institutions to fully comply with the court ruling in the interest of democracy and constitutional order.
The communiqué also reaffirmed the legitimacy and authority of the Mohammed-led National Caretaker Committee, with Senator Anyanwu serving as Secretary.
It stressed that the committee remains the only lawful national administrative body of the party, empowered to function as the National Working Committee pending the conduct of the national convention.
The NEC further endorsed the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee and other caretaker committees at the state and zonal levels until the completion of the national convention and the respective congresses.
The committee also directed the NCC to immediately set up convention sub-committees and commence full logistical, administrative and consultative preparations to ensure a credible and inclusive convention.
The party, therefore, appealed to its members, supporters and stakeholders within Nigeria and in the diaspora to remain united, law-abiding and committed to the core principles of the PDP as preparations for the convention progress.
