Abuja, April 13, 2026 — Renovation work has commenced at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat in Wadata Plaza, following the reopening of the premises for access by a faction of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
A correspondent who visited the Zone 5 headquarters on Monday observed ongoing refurbishment activities at the facility as preparations continued ahead of staff resumption.
The development came after security operatives unsealed the premises, allowing entry into the building. Although barricades around the main structure had been removed, police personnel and vehicles were still seen stationed within and around the complex to maintain order.
A party source, who requested anonymity, said rehabilitation works began on Sunday, even though staff members had yet to return to duty.
He explained that the ongoing repairs include repainting, replacement of air-conditioning units, and changes to office locks and keys, alongside reallocation of offices for members of the current NWC.
According to the source, uncertainty remains over the return of workers aligned with a different faction of the party leadership.
As of the time of filing this report, no official staff activity had resumed at the secretariat.
The reopening of the facility followed an earlier announcement by a factional leadership of the party, which declared that both the national headquarters and the presidential campaign office in Maitama had been unsealed in line with court directives.
The faction maintained that the properties were formally handed over to its leadership structure, while also cautioning against any actions that could disrupt order at the premises.
However, a rival faction has rejected the development, arguing that the legal process surrounding the facility remains unresolved and subject to appeal, and warning that any action taken could undermine ongoing judicial proceedings.
