Oyo Police Arrest Three Suspected Armed Robbers, Recover Locally Made Gun

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered a locally fabricated single-barrel gun during a routine stop-and-search operation in Ibadan.

DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the operation, aimed at deterring crime and ensuring public safety, intercepted an unregistered tricycle, popularly known as “Keke Maruwa,” carrying three occupants.

“A thorough search of the tricycle led to the recovery of one locally fabricated single-barrel gun, modified into a short-arm, suitable for concealment,” Olayinka said.

The suspects, aged between 18 and 19, along with the recovered firearm, were handed over to the Command Monitoring Unit. They are cooperating with ongoing investigations and are expected to be charged in court.

Olayinka urged the public to provide timely and credible information to the police, emphasizing that such collaboration is vital for maintaining safety. He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Oyo State.
