The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested seven suspects over alleged vandalism of public infrastructure and burglary of shops and residential buildings across the state.
The State Commandant of the corps, Mr Mohammed Hassan-Agalama, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists in Kano.
He said two of the suspects, aged 19 and 20, were arrested shortly after allegedly vandalising armoured cables worth thousands of naira at Yan Shana community in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
According to him, the arrest was carried out with the support of members of a local vigilante group in the area.
Hassan-Agalama said two other suspects, aged 19 and 25, were apprehended along Madaki Street in Rano Local Government Area for allegedly vandalising aluminium conductor cables.
He further disclosed that operatives of the command also dismantled a burglary syndicate that had been terrorising residents of Danhassan community in Kura Local Government Area.
The commandant said three suspects in the syndicate, aged between 22 and 25, all residents of Danhassan, were arrested.
Preliminary investigations and confessional statements, he said, revealed that the suspects had burgled no fewer than seven shops, carting away valuables belonging to residents.
Hassan-Agalama added that all the suspects were cooperating with investigators and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
