The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Kano State has pledged to strengthen collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to combat drug abuse in the state.
The State Coordinator of NOA, Nura Liman, made the disclosure while speaking with journalists on Monday in Kano.
Liman said the agency was intensifying awareness campaigns on the dangers of drug abuse, particularly among young people.
He explained that the collaboration with NDLEA was aimed at educating the public, especially youths, on the harmful effects of drug abuse.
“Investigations reveal that drug abuse is spreading in Kano, which is a worrying trend that requires collective action. NOA is therefore boosting awareness on the health, social and economic risks associated with it,” he said.
According to him, youth involvement in drug abuse is often linked to various social vices and criminal activities, noting that addressing the challenge would help reduce crime in the state.
Liman also commended the efforts of the Kano State Government in tackling phone snatching and thuggery, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to peace and security.
He stressed that public sensitisation remained a shared responsibility and called on community leaders, parents, civil society organisations and the media to support ongoing awareness efforts.
He added that such collaboration would help achieve the state’s goal of reducing drug abuse and related crimes.
