NiMet Forecasts Dust Haze, Cloudy Skies Nationwide from Sunday to Wednesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted dust haze and varying cloud conditions across the country from Sunday to Wednesday.

In its weather outlook released on Sunday, NiMet projected moderate dust haze over the northern region on Monday, while thick dust haze is expected to prevail across the central region throughout the forecast period. Inland cities in the southern region are also expected to experience moderate dust haze.

According to the agency, coastal areas will witness sunny skies with patches of clouds, with chances of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Lagos, Bayelsa and Rivers States later in the day.

On Tuesday, NiMet forecast moderate dust haze over the northern and central regions, as well as inland cities in the southern part of the country. Coastal areas are expected to have sunny skies with patches of clouds, with isolated thunderstorms and light rains anticipated over parts of Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers States.

By Wednesday, thick dust haze is expected to dominate the northern region, while moderate dust haze will persist over the central region. Dust haze is also anticipated over inland southern cities, with sunny skies and patches of clouds forecast over coastal areas.

NiMet warned that dust particles remain suspended in the atmosphere and advised the public to take necessary precautions. People with asthma and other respiratory conditions were urged to be particularly cautious.

The agency also advised motorists to drive carefully during rainfall and encouraged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective operational planning.
