NHRC Records 176 Human Rights Complaints in Kano Within Two Months

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Kano State has disclosed that it handled 179 reports of alleged human rights violations between April and May 2026.

The state coordinator of the commission, Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi, revealed this during an interview in Kano on Wednesday.

According to him, 139 of the complaints have already been resolved, while 40 cases are still being processed.

Abdullahi stated that 126 of the reported cases involved issues related to children’s rights, women’s rights, and gender-based concerns.

He added that 28 complaints were linked to family neglect, abandonment of responsibilities, and domestic violence.

The remaining 25 cases, he said, were associated with economic and cultural rights, labour-related disputes, and incidents of physical violence.

He noted that the commission also intervened in marital disputes, helping couples resolve disagreements through mediation and dialogue.

The coordinator called on spouses to cultivate patience, understanding, and mutual respect to promote peaceful coexistence and effectively manage family responsibilities.
