NDLEA Burns 54 Tons of Illegal Substances in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has eliminated more than 52,481 kilograms of various illicit drugs recovered from multiple operations across the state.

The destruction exercise, held on Thursday at Kufena in Zaria along the Birnin Gwari Road, marked a major milestone in the agency’s ongoing campaign to free Kaduna from the scourge of narcotics.

State Commander of the NDLEA, Mohammed Tukur, said the operation represents a shared responsibility to safeguard communities from the destructive impact of drug abuse and trafficking.

He explained that the destroyed substances were products of intelligence-led operations executed in collaboration with the military, police, customs, and other sister security agencies.

Tukur noted that the exercise demonstrates the agency’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and professionalism in managing seized drug exhibits in accordance with due legal process.

He commended the NDLEA Chairman, retired Brigadier-General Buba Marwa, for his visionary leadership and far-reaching reforms that have continued to enhance the agency’s operational capacity nationwide.

The Commander also appreciated Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his unwavering support to the command, noting that the state’s assistance has boosted the effectiveness of NDLEA’s field operations.

In his remarks, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), said the destruction exercise highlights the agency’s relentless efforts to ensure illicit drugs never find their way back into circulation.

Marwa, represented by Deputy Commander General (DCG) Sulaiman Ningi, Director of Operations and General Investigation, applauded the Kaduna Command for its dedication and commended the state government for donating two operational vehicles and land for new office and residential facilities.

He reiterated NDLEA’s resolve to intensify its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, urging families, schools, and communities to join hands in tackling the growing threat of substance misuse.

Governor Sani, represented by the Special Adviser on Drugs and Narcotics Control, Umar Bambale, said the exercise reinforces the state’s unwavering stance against drug trafficking and abuse.

He explained that the government’s SUSTAIN Agenda incorporates anti-drug measures into broader initiatives on security, education, welfare, and healthcare.

Sani pledged continued collaboration with the NDLEA and relevant partners to promote prevention, rehabilitation, and enforcement programs across Kaduna State.

He further called on community leaders, parents, and traditional rulers to strengthen awareness and vigilance, emphasizing that curbing drug abuse requires joint effort from both government and society.

The event drew senior military officers, government representatives, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders, all of whom reaffirmed their commitment to achieving a drug-free Kaduna State.
