NCAA Suspends Two Value Jet Pilots Over Safety Protocol Violation

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended the licenses of two ValueJet pilots following a reported violation of aviation safety procedures.

This was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by Mr. Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Domestic Terminal of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. The Authority described the violation as a “serious breach of aviation safety protocols”.

As a result, the NCAA has taken swift enforcement action by suspending the licenses of the pilot, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, and the co-pilot, First Officer Ivan Oloba, with immediate effect.

“The suspension will remain in force until a thorough investigation into the incident is completed,” the statement noted.

Preliminary findings suggest that the pilot initiated departure procedures from the assigned parking bay without obtaining the required pre-departure clearance.

The NCAA stated that this unauthorized move endangered the safety of airport ground staff and other users of the terminal, in direct violation of both domestic aviation regulations and global safety standards.
