Nigerian Navy Saves 10 Crew Members from Stranded MV SEMA III
The Nigerian Navy successfully rescued 10 crew members from the distressed vessel MV SEMA III, which was en route from Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, to Calabar.
According to a statement by the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Ayiwuyor Adams-Aliu, the operation demonstrated the Navy’s rapid response and commitment to safeguarding lives at sea.
The Forward Operating Base IBAKA team responded to a distress call on Friday around 8:00 p.m., deploying a naval gunboat equipped with a submersible pump. Upon arrival, they found the vessel taking in water and immediately evacuated the crew, which included one Cameroonian, one Equatorial Guinean, and eight Nigerians. The rescued crew were received, debriefed, and provided care at FOB IBAKA until Saturday.
The vessel’s Master expressed profound gratitude to the Nigerian Navy for the swift and professional rescue.
Adams-Aliu noted that the successful mission highlights the Navy’s ongoing dedication to maritime safety, protecting national assets, and supporting lawful economic activities within Nigeria’s waters.
