The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced that no fewer than 1,296 recruits of the Basic Military Training Course 45/2024 will graduate on Saturday in Kaduna.
The Guest of Honour at the Beating of the Retreat ceremony, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Ahmad Shinkafi, said the event marked the formal conclusion of training activities for the recruits. He explained that the ceremony was not only to celebrate the recruits’ achievements but also to recognise and reward squadrons and individuals who distinguished themselves during the rigorous training period.
Shinkafi congratulated the recruits for reaching a major milestone in their military careers, describing the training as demanding and comprehensive, combining academic instruction with intensive outdoor and tactical exercises. He noted that the training was particularly significant as the NAF continued to integrate contemporary asymmetric warfare and enhance the technical competencies required for modern air power operations.
As the Passing Out Parade draws near, Shinkafi urged the recruits to remain resolute, describing the period as a true test of character and discipline. He expressed confidence that the values they had imbibed would guide them through the final phase of training and reminded them of their loyalty to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the importance of subordination to civil authority.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that one of the highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of prizes to outstanding squadrons and individuals who excelled in various academic and competitive activities, in line with the NAF’s principle of recognising excellence.
Shinkafi said excellence in performance leads to recognition and rewards, stressing that commitment to such values was essential for the effective discharge of the NAF’s constitutional role of defending Nigeria’s national interests. He added that the Beating of the Retreat ceremony was meant to celebrate the recruits’ achievements and motivate them as they prepared for operational duties.
He congratulated prize winners, particularly the champion squadron, for exceptional performance, while encouraging others who did not receive awards, noting that completing the training itself was a significant achievement.
Shinkafi also commended the Commandant of the Military Training Centre and the instructors for their leadership, dedication and tireless efforts in moulding the recruits into disciplined airmen and airwomen.
