Greenfields Metal Limited, operators of the Ekubara mining site in Amaonye, Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has approved the installation of 50 solar-powered streetlights in its host community.

The project, valued at ₦20 million, was announced on Wednesday by the company’s Chairman and Managing Director, Chief Henry Ahanotu, during a reception organised in his honour by the Amaonye community.

The event marked the resolution of a lingering dispute between the community and the mining firm, which both sides described as a “new dawn of peace and partnership.”

“As a mark of goodwill, Greenfields Metal Limited is donating ₦2 million to Amaonye community today, in addition to the installation of 50 units of solar streetlights that will be mounted across the village. Work on the ₦20 million project will commence immediately,” Ahanotu said.

He described the reconciliation as the start of a stronger collaboration and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainable development.
“This peace accord is not just an end to hostilities but the beginning of a brighter partnership. We are determined to contribute meaningfully to the economic growth and social wellbeing of Amaonye,” he added.

Community leaders welcomed the initiative and pledged support for peaceful mining operations.
Mr. Ndubueze John, Chairman of the Amaonye Development Union, said the company’s presence would boost social and economic activities in the area.

Chief Sunday Chukwu noted that the streetlights would improve security and reduce crime, while Chief Uchechukwu Okoro highlighted their potential to enhance night-time trading and provide safe spaces for children studying after dark.

Chief Ejiofor Ndukwe, a former leader of the Ivo Local Government Legislative Council, urged both parties to sustain dialogue to make Amaonye a model host community.

The event featured cultural dances, traditional music, and prayers for peace, signalling the beginning of a new partnership between Greenfields Metals and Amaonye community.
